So, one of the things that makes a blog popular or sometimes a website is constant updating: thus….the updates here. I don’t normally just write for the sake of frequency on this blog. Well, I have to admit today, since I haven’t posted for a few days, the notion popped in my head. I try to keep posts here as germane as possible to the topic of life in Korea in terms of work and just plain living. However, today, I was about to put some total random stuff to see what sort of traffic it would drive. As a result, I decided I would play with a search engine marketing phenomena in the post today.

I usually keep track of the top keywords on the internet. My fascination isn’t in just knowing purely useless facts like Cliff Claven from the 80’s sitcom Cheers. It involves more about knowing what “people are thinking out there” when they are searching on the Internet. I am also very curious what people are using the Internet for since it’s a revolutionary tool for shopping, gathering information and just an incredible medium for many things. So, I’m subscribed to this keyword list called Wordtracker. They send me a list of keywords that are popular via meta search engines. The latest list had an interesting change. Typically, the word “sex” is in the top 5 words and over the long term or according to the Wordtracker, list over the past 90 days, it’s the #1 keyword searched on the Internet. However, this week, in the past 48 hours, “sex” seems to have dropped out of peoples’ minds…just like my own. ^^

“Sex” was #57 according to their list — this is a HUGE drop & one I’ve never seen before. Either their list is relatively inaccurate or the word literally has been replaced instead by several other words that climbed most recently like “nicole jaracz” — whoever that is. Other words that dominate the top 10 in the list are another version of the word “sex” = “porn.” “play game” is another favorite of people who search for things on the internet. The list continues….hentai, a word that starts with “p” that I’d prefer not to put here, myspace, milf (which isn’t something I’m thrilled that’s on the list, but hmmmm), boobs and google. Yes, people actually search for “google” — to find google…sometimes they search “google” inside of google.com. Can you believe it?
