I haven’t been really paying attention to the media much when it comes to stereotyping or negative images of Asians recently.  I’ve just been too busy to do so.  However, this picture on the front of just struck me as not necessarily the best picture to glorify Asians in sport.  The story was profiling two LARGE Chinese professionals in the NBA, but when you look at the pic, it looks similar to most racist depictions of Asians in the past.

I’m not someone to freak out about things as much lately because I know “crying wolf” doesn’t do much.  It’s when you control the markets or become a billionaire you start to have some true power in swaying peoples’ opinions.  However, this is just stupid.  While it’s a bit funny, I have to admit, it just continues to buttress images of Asians in the U.S.  I’m thinking that the sports media field is probably the least to adapt to the standards that most forms of media are trying to move towards.  The images are still out there & the biases continue, but the fortunate thing is that Asians are starting to dominate anything from winning Survivor to placing 2nd in the Apprentice to becoming Billionaires throughout the world.  It’s these pictures that do set us back a few steps though…just my 2 (Asian) cents.
