That’s what some critics of the “most powerful atom-smasher ever built could make some bizarre discoveries” when turned on in August. The story about the $5.8 billion dollar collider was published by the AP on Yahoo here. “…critics fear the Large Collider could exceed physicists’ wildest conjectures: Will it spawn a that could swallow Earth? Or spit out particles that could turn the planet into a hot dead clump?”
Scientists argue it’s not going to be dangerous enough to produce such wild speculations. “…the LHC is only going to reproduce what nature does every second, what it has been doing for billions of years,” according to the scientists.
If this is the case, why are they spending close to $6.0 billion dollars on this and excited at the possibilites if it’s simply going to reproduce what nature does? Hmmmmmm….
Scientists like to experiment. However, the key word is experiment. They don’t know the results of the hypotheticals. Who knows? So, you may want spend some quality time with those loved ones in the next month. Regardless, it won’t hurt that you did…right?
