Life

Life

Alright, from now on, you’ll have to quote “Brandon Na” when this quote comes up in any publication.  I should now be trademarked as the one who thought this one up.  Ha, ha…

Basically, Life being a Lie if you remove the ‘f” was something I realized when trying to type ‘Life’ too fast in a browser search.  I came up with ‘Lie’ instead.

So, what does ‘f’ stand for?  I would argue “fun” and if you don’t have enough of it in life, then you really are living a lie.  🙂

No, I’m not talking about any California Beach, but rather THE California Beach in Kyongju (or spelled Gyeongju) here in South Korea. Several posts ago, I wrote about how I was considering going to California Beach this weekend & despite almost falling asleep through the departure time, I threw my hurried & perspiring body into a cab to arrive at the bus to Kyongju on time (of course, after getting to the bus, we find they weren’t leaving until 40 minutes after the deadline they gave us this morning of 7:30a). Korean food becoming trendy?

I noticed a recent article in the U.S.’s leading newspaper profiling Korean food. It appears their travel writer decided to profile cuisine from the land of the morning calm. However, one article doesn’t necessarily allow me to generalize so hastily. It takes two examples for me to plaster the world with a generalization that could be the furthest thing from the truth…but for me, it works.

The other example telling me Korean food is trendy now was from an email a friend of mine from Seattle forwarded. She passed on another one of her friend’s emails saying:

” Look what McCormick & Schmick has on their menu now! Our very own Kbbq & Kimchee! Continue reading

Wanted starring Angelie Jolie

Wanted starring Angelie Jolie

I’ve been meaning to write about my thoughts about the summer Angelie Jolie/Morgan Freeman starring flick Wanted for some time now. Simply put, I enjoyed it. I haven’t seen a good action flick with a plot that you couldn’t expect 100%. While some things were predictable, the story still entertains even the cynical of movie goers. It was worth the watch.

If you need one line though to describe how the movie played out, I’d say it was: Matrix meet Mission Impossible meet Office Space & you get the movie Wanted.

Prof whose ‘last lecture’ became a sensation dies of Pancreatic Cancer (at the young age of 47 years old)

Randy Pausch's family - author of the Last Lecture

I first heard about Professor Pausch back in February of this year when someone forwarded a video clip where he tells people to live out your childhood dreams. It was definitely a great speech to listen to and it does remind us that your life can be taken at any moment. It was also something that I wrote about recently in just not being scared & doing what you should do in life. So, it’s a bit coincidental that he passed away just today (which is still July 25th in the United States). I’ve also been thinking more seriously about working on my WhenILeave.com project more recently as well which is definitely related to his passing. Continue reading

A Californian Beach in Korea?

One water park I’m considering visiting this weekend is called California Beach in Gyeongju, just an hour+ north of Busan. Some pictures I found on Naver of the place follow. During July (18th) through August (24th), it supposedly is open from 9a to 8:30p (with potential extended hours to 9:15p). The cost is 54,000 won for an all day pass, but if you come after 3p, they have a twilight special for 43,000 won. If it turns out to be fun & I have some pics & stories to tell you, expect a post here!

Yes, I mean cooling off in South Korea…

The summer’s turned balmy and very hot here in Korea & the thoughts of jumping into cool waters are on my mind constantly.  This past week, I saw a sign advertising a waterpark on a subway ride home, but couldn’t remember the name of it before I got home to find one nearby online.

So, my quest to find a water park near Busan grew stronger.  I’ve learned a bit & thought I should share my findings to anyone wanting to play a little in the water to reduce their body temperatures a few degrees — probably would help with all the many people getting heated even at work. So, why not do something that you always had excuses about?

I wish I could live my life this way.  It’s something I accept pretty easily, but why do I still neglect taking chances?  I take chances.  I have more courage than ever, but why do I still not do what I should?

Do you ever wonder this?  Many of us our afraid, but when you TRULY think about it, why not just do what you really want to do regardless of money or other reason?  Why not?

Off to the right, you can see links or blue rectangle bars that allow you to translate my blog into Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, French, Spanish and German in addition to the default English version of this blog.  These options are all thanks to Google translate.  And the behemoth Google recently announced they hit 40 languages despite me only providing 7 options at this time for this blog.  I guess I could try and add the other 33 languages, but not sure how much real estate that would take off to the right & also not sure if it would justify it 100%.  I don’t get an INCREDIBLE number of requests to translate my blog yet with the links to the right, but who knows? Just passed 10,000 views this month (with more than 11 days to go)…

I would have never imagined close to 10,000 people a month would visit this blog.  The keys: a bit of controversy stirred up by a little unfortunate event that happened a couple weeks ago, posts about Korean women & Korean music videos, a few posts about some handy Korean language phrases & an image about a dog that was attacked by a porcupine.  Oh, and maybe the other 450+ posts over the past 18 months.  Continue reading
