A message that several of the groups I belong to on Facebook have been starting off saying:

Quietly, Facebook restored message capability to groups over 1000. This means, at least until we hit 5000 members, that we can send out a couple of messages! Thank you, Facebook.

So, I guess this shows 1) that you do have to be quite popular to spam and 2) Facebook is still relatively secretive in their granting of privileges or rights on the site and in changes to features they offer.

They haven’t learned from past mistakes that sometimes failing to announce changes to the site can be dangerous.  However, they weren’t really tagged with too much media with this one – at least I haven’t seen any (which doesn’t prove this claim true or false though; it’s hard keeping up with all the news out there). Nevertheless, just because you’re huge and popular on the Internet doesn’t mean you can’t do things quietly and secretly.  Facebook is definitely a prime example of that…
