William Henry Gates III better known as “Bill Gates” is the world’s richest man (at least for now) according to Fortune Magazine. Many people are fascinated about the man who’s accrued more wealth than anyone else for most of the years Fortune has compiled their list for the past 20 or so years. I’ll admit I also wonder what the richest person in the world thinks and wonder if what he says and thinks that may inspire me to do the same.
So, where can we find these profound thoughts? He wrote “The Road Ahead” in 1995. So, here’s the first chance beyond his emails and communication to his coworkers and friends that the public could read about what he was thinking. He followed up in 1999 with “Business @ the Speed of Thought. ” Of course Gates is profiled in the media quite often, but since that’s unpredictable when he’ll be quoted, there’s a few other ways to follow this very successful individual.
Originally named Carillon Holdings in March of 2008, Gates changed the name of his new think tank to bgC3 LLC. The name stands for Bill Gates Catalyst. Number 3 points to a third location beyond Microsoft and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The original url http://www.bgc3.com redirects to a website called “Gates Notes” which tells you why he’s created the new think tank with a splash page opening when you surf to the website http://www.thegatesnotes.com. It basically says he’s now learning a lot of great things with his foundation after leaving Microsoft and is using his notes to continue conversations by experts in their fields that he ends up participating in. More on the background of his new website below.
I found this site by going to Bill Gates’ new Twitter account which it looks like he established in January of this year. Bill Gates looks like he started tweeting on January 19th, 2010 to be exact. So, of course, this Twitter account in another way to keep in touch and learn what he’s thinking and saying.
Not sure if this is the official Gates Notes Flickr account, but it has some really spectacular photos that seem like only the richest man in the world might be able to afford. Regardless, lots of great pictures on on the link if you click on “show photos” link.
About Bill Gates Notes:
Since leaving my fulltime job at Microsoft to dedicate more time to our foundation, a lot of people have asked me what I’m working on. It often feels like I’m back in school, as I spend a lot of my time learning about issues I’m passionate about.
I’m fortunate because the people I’m working with and learning from are true experts in their fields. I take a lot of notes, and often share them and my own thoughts on the subject with others through email, so I can learn from them and expand the conversation.
I thought it would be interesting to share these conversations more widely with a website, in the hope of getting more people thinking and learning about the issues I think are interesting and important. So, welcome to the Gates Notes.
