World’s richest man shares thoughts…

William Henry Gates III better known as “Bill Gates” is the world’s richest man (at least for now) according to Fortune Magazine.  Many people are fascinated about the man who’s accrued more wealth than anyone else for most of the years Fortune has compiled their list for the past 20 or so years.  I’ll admit I also wonder what the richest person in the world thinks and wonder if what he says and thinks that may inspire me to do the same.

So, where can we find these profound thoughts?  He wrote “The Road Ahead” in 1995.  So, here’s the first chance beyond his emails and communication to his coworkers and friends that the public could read about what he was thinking.  He followed up in 1999 with “Business @ the Speed of Thought. ”  Of course Gates is profiled in the media quite often, but since that’s unpredictable when he’ll be quoted, there’s a few other ways to follow this very successful individual. 18 year old son of a popular celebrity I grew up watching commits suicide

Michael Blosil and his mom Marie Osmond

Michael Blosil

Donnie and Marie were always on TV when I was growing up.  Their smiles lit up the networks and they seemed as happy as all can be.  However, we just learned today, all is not always happy behind the scenes with celebrities unfortunately.

From the Daily Mail.

Michael Blosil, 18, left a suicide note for his family saying he had decided to end his life because of the ‘torment’ of his long battle against depression and drug and alcohol abuse.  A police source said Blosil, who had been adopted as a baby by Osmond and her ex-husband Brian, jumped off the roof of the ten-storey apartment block in central LA where he rented a £1,500-a-month flat.

King of Pop dead? Charlie’s Angel’s Queen of the blond hair do dead too?

Micheal Jackson Dies?

Micheal Jackson Dies?

UPDATE: Looks like multiple sources are now saying the King of Pop is dead.  CNN reports “Pop icon Michael Jackson has died in Los Angeles, according to multiple reports” and the New York Times says “Michael Jackson, 50, Is Dead.”

Thanks to my best friend’s sister Shirley, I just saw her status saying that TMZ.com reported Micheal Jackson died.  I looked on ABCNews.com and it says he’s suffered from a cardiac arrest, but hasn’t confirmed he has passed.  CNN reports the same and so doese the NYTimes.com.  Micheal Jackson (actually spelled “Michael” Jackson, but mispelled here just fyi) passing would really rock the music industry despite his lack of success in recent years.   I think he was trying to do a tour or something to make up for all his losses and lack of funds, but of course, he’s not the same as he was at his height.

CNN though has confirmed or reported that Farah Fawcett (rather Farrah Fawcett) of Charlie’s Angels fame has died.  She was 12 years older than Jackson.  She died of anal cancer. She was also known for literally having the blond hair do that every woman wanted at the time (which I believe was in the 1970’s).  She was THE sex symbol at the time.  She probably helped continue if not start a new wave of people LOVING blonds in the United States.

Farah Fawcett Passes

Farah Fawcett Passes

Two HUGE icons passing really makes this an interesting & sad day for the entertainment industry.  Not sure what to think of these two passing…(if it’s true that Michael Jackson died…)

“Live from Busan, South Korea, it’s…”

efm logoSome of you already know, but I’ve accepted a job as the Evening Host of Busan’s English Radio station eFM.   The station is at 90.5 on the FM dial and the website is http://befm.co.kr (where you can also listen off the Internet).

I’ll be starting on Monday, July 6th (2009). It’s definitely not something I had planned on doing for this juncture in life, but it’s a welcome change to the relatively stressful life that I was living the past 3 years with Chungdahm Learning (in the Busan region). I may blog about my time at Injoong Education (the parent company of the Busan+ branches of Chungdahm Learning & April English), but that will take a bit of time to write…

I’m looking incredibly forward to this experience and thus far, I’ve learned:

  • I have some REALLY cool coworkers like my sweet & awesome Producer Hana Jo and stylish and kewl writer Ji-wook.  Other cool foreign coworkers like Matthew, Petra and Dennis also prove I’m simply lucky in finding quality coworkers.  Sohee & Haejin along with our cool Team Leader Mikyung also make the days extra special and of course our Executive Director Mr. Koo (General Manager) as well who seems very cool for Korean management. barack obama's inaugral address

barack obama's inaugral address

I realize the Inaugral address by U.S. President Obama is actually spelled “inaugural” with an extra ‘u,’ but I thought I would try a search engine management experiment to see if I can rise to the top with a mispelling.  I have a lot of competition with many, many news agencies covering this historical event, but let’s see if The Real South Korea can outdo them with search engine marketing & get a few hits in the process.

Here’s the text of President Barack Obama’s inaugral address or should I say the text of President Barack Obama’s “inaugUral” address:

“OBAMA: My fellow citizens:

I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition. Continue reading

Sunflower

Sunflower

This Korean movie stirs the emotions for most of the movie up through until the end.  It makes you really hate the villains and you can’t wait for the main character to pummel them in the end.  Two negatives: no English subtitles for the International viewers and I wish the revenge lasted a little longer.  😉

For the entire movie, you can watch it via this playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=77C93ED8D65C9F91

This was a funny movie I saw recently. I’ve been in a movie watching mode. Not a bad flick…especially after watching a horrible one last night in the theatres.

The movie stars a very pretty Chinese actress Qi Shu.  It’s called “Jopog Manura 3” in Korean.  It was produced in 2006.  Here’s some more details from IMDB: “When Aryong, the daughter of a triad boss from Hong Kong is accused of killing the boss of a competing triad, she is goes into hiding in Korea. Upon arriving, she is guided by a nimble but loyal Gi-chul and his motley crew, who are assigned to protect her until her return.”

If you’d like to watch the whole thing with a tad bit of transition problems towards the end, click on this link for the playlist on Youtube.

Il Mare - 시월애

Il Mare - 시월애

I guess it was so good, they turned it into a Hollywood production in the states.  It’s called “Il Mare” I guess translated from the Korean “Shi-wor-eh” (시월애).  A remake of it with Keanu Reaves and Sandra Bullock was called the “Lake House”, but it was definitely much worse.

If you’d like to see the entire movie part after part, just click here for a playlist on Youtube which plays it to the end.

Wanted starring Angelie Jolie

Wanted starring Angelie Jolie

I’ve been meaning to write about my thoughts about the summer Angelie Jolie/Morgan Freeman starring flick Wanted for some time now. Simply put, I enjoyed it. I haven’t seen a good action flick with a plot that you couldn’t expect 100%. While some things were predictable, the story still entertains even the cynical of movie goers. It was worth the watch.

If you need one line though to describe how the movie played out, I’d say it was: Matrix meet Mission Impossible meet Office Space & you get the movie Wanted.
