Is it me?  Or did I just land in the country most well known for “drama?”

Just visited my great friend Derek at his wedding in Hawaii with the beautiful bride Bonnie and great friends.  It was seriously a beautiful wedding. Here’s the couple dancing to “Bella’s Lullaby” played by you would think a professional piano player, but rather by their niece “Rachel” who is AMAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZING!!!! (think of Will Ferrell yelling this like he did at the Harvard Commencement speech).

Proud of myself…

physical abuse

physical abuse

It’s not often you can boast about being proud of what you do.  Lately, I feel like I am definitely maturing and being less afraid of saying what “should be said.”  At times, you back down since you know conflict is not going to help a situation get better.  In other times, you know that conflict is necessary or that you must simply say what’s on your mind so that later more abuse or problems will fail to occur.  In the past month or so, I’ve been speaking my mind regardless of the outcome.  I think it through before doing so & in those times where I know conflict will result, I move forward…

The other night, we were at a dinner for one of the branches that we manage.  It’s our flagship branch since it’s the largest one in our 15 individual schools.  We went to a bar after dinner and sat around chatting for a bit.  In the middle of talking with my coworker Jason (who I think is a great guy, by the way), we notice an older man standing up and yelling at an older lady.  They are in their 40’s, I’m thinking or at least he is.  She’s possibly in her mid 30’s.  It’s hard to say. Achieving a promotion in 6 months what normally takes 10+ years

Didn’t realize it at the time, but when I was promoted twice in a matter of 6 months from Instructor to Faculty Manager and to my current title of Director, I found out from reading some literature recently it can take a normal Korean 10+ years to obtain the title below me called “gwajang” — a mid-level management position.  If it takes regularly 10+ years for that position and I’m in a title even higher and obtained it in less than 6 months, I should definitely be proud of my accomplishment.  I guess my previous experience made it easier along with my age & supposed wisdom.  Some days I neglect to realize all that I’ve done actually while here…

I have an eraser in my head

I have an eraser in my head

Get ready to gush out a cloud full of tears…this 2004 Korean Romance Film titled “Nae meorisokui jiwoogae” or directly translated into English “I have an eraser in my head” is one of the better sad love stories you’ll see.  The International title though is “A Moment to Remember.”  I’ve seen some tear jerkers from Korea, but this one definitely didn’t help my tear ducts stay full.  The first of  26 segments follows.

I’m more tired than I’ve been in a long time, but I can’t sleep…

Yesterday, I went to sleep at like 8a in the morning & woke up around 12p…to get into work on time. Yes, I work from 1p to 10/11p daily. It matches the work schedule of most of my coworkers. I should be sleeping now because I’m going to have a long day tomorrow, I’m sure. However, I can’t. Continue reading

Online flogging (aka Email flogging)

Is there such a thing?  I’ve been posed and actually just recently accused by one of the two who I spoke “dearly” of in this post called:”Two tools on Facebook NOT to use!

I did a quick search on both “online flogging” and “email flogging” and both searches don’t come up with much that is directly germane to the perceived definition of the terms.  More accurately, flogging is defined by Merriam Webster as “to beat with or as if with a rod or whip” or “to criticize harshly.”  So, this would basically mean that my post about the two guys who manipulated me into coming up to Seoul & persuade me to gather as much information for them for free (wasting my time & social equity in trying to acquire them contacts) along with “job speculation” or “employment lures” is “whipping them online” or “criticizing them harshly online.” Am I whipping them?  I agree I am criticizing them as much as I can.  When did criticizing become wrong?  Continue reading

Just short of 600 views…

Like I said “porcupines,” “Korean women” and many others like “how to say hello (or thank you) in Korean” are dominating the traffic on the blog these days.  For a snippet of the rest of the popular posts, check out the following WordPress stats for The Real “South” Korea: Continue reading

7 days in 7 hours…

Wow, the past week felt literally like several hours vs. several days.  I’m a bit sad that it couldn’t be longer.  I barely saw my friends and family.  It was great literally hanging out for a long lunch at Duke’s yesterday with Sun, Stacy and Tony.  Mom, Dad and I got to share our typical updates and “advice for the future.”  They look older and older every time I see them.  I’m hoping tonight, it’s good hanging out with a few more friends.  I do miss home…

By the way, I only spent 2 of the days actually in Seattle & the other days in Las Vegas with Paulie and co.  Actually, it was literally a day or so in Seattle…so my apologies to anyone I didn’t get to see, but I literally had no time…

I helped Facebook drop 10% last month

So, the following Mashable Social Networking News story says Facebook is down 10% in April.

http://mashable.com/2008/05/20/facebook-traffic-decline/

I have to admit that I’m part of the problem.  I haven’t been visiting Facebook as often as I was at the beginning of our romantic affair.  At first, it was a pain getting to know her and making friends with her friends.   After I got to know all her social network, i was in love.  She had everything I wanted.  However, just like my first affair with Friendster, I’ve sort of fell out of love.  I did call Friendster up the other day, but I found that all of her friends have been peaking at pictures of me since January — when I supposedly last really visited.  I may have snuck a glance in between then and now to see her and her friends, but there’s definitely no more than just curiosity with her.  Like Friendster, I’m growing tired and bored with Facebook.  I’m sorry Facebook.  I know your Daddy Mark liked me a lot, but it’s not just about your family.    Continue reading
