Six letters.

Many combinations.

Possibly the cure to all the world’s problems.

In Korea, this one word makes or breaks peoples’ lives. Without these, many go homeless. With these, many have a roof over their head. For many foreigners or expatriates who date Korean women, it’s our biggest hurdle in getting to know them. However, after we get to know them, our bonds can be tighter than superglue with the Korean women we might love. Continue reading

Lung Cancer takes famous novelist, poet, writer John Updike

Young John Updike

Young John Updike

I’ve heard his name a bunch of times, but actually had no idea he was still alive.  To be frank, I thought he was as long gone as Hemingway or one of his contemporaries.  However, I just noticed he passed away a couple days ago on the 27th of January.  His most famous work was his Rabbit series (Rabbit, Run; Rabbit Redux; Rabbit Is Rich; Rabbit At Rest; and Rabbit Remembered).

Rest in peace Mr. Updike.

I have to admit since it was always a very publicized television show when I was younger & I was a TV junkie growing up, I did see a lot of Ms. U.S.A. or Ms. America pageants.  I haven’t watched many since, but as usual, the pageants and their winners are some of the top stories in the news.  Perusing through Yahoo news as I usually do, I just noticed 2009’s winner was recently crowned in Las Vegas at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino (wasn’t this the Alladin?).  It’s interesting that I can keep up with this info with no problems despite being in Korea.  I’ve also watched most popular flicks that premiere in the states within days of their release.  I watched Valkyrie & even the History channel documentary about it (not bad, by the way).  Anyway, this year’s winner of the pageant is Katie R. Stam & wants to be what most contestants want in life: “to be a TV reporter/anchor.”  She’s 22 and comes from Seymour, Indiana.  The article about her winning follows with a picture gallery of Ms. USA 2009 Katie Stam from the pageant.  Continue reading
